WE MUST REMAIN UNITED IN HONOUR OF UDO EKPENYONG – FORMER PDP STATE OFFICERS
…. As Etim Ekpo, Ibesikpo Asutan, Mkpat Enin Stakeholders pray for consolation over Udo Ekpenyong’s Demise
Former members of the State Executive Committees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State, since 1998, have stated that the party in the state should reunite at all fronts as a mark of honour to the departed state chairman of the party, Obong Udo Ekpenyong.
The delegation of former leaders of the party at the state level who visited the party to show condolences on the demise of the state party chairman, expressing grief over the incident, noted that the party must sustain the ideals of the late chairman including unity.
The leader of the delegation who is the immediate past state chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo described the late Ekpenyong as his “worthy successor”, saying that the departed chairman was a man of towering character who has left indelible marks in the party, the state and country.
Ekpo pointed that as a man who worked in several capacities to the growth of the party and most significantly, peace in the party, late Ekpenyong deserves to be immortalised and honoured by party faithful.
“For us to immortalise Obong Udo Ekpenyong, we the former state officers of the party must stay united and make sure that all that he laid out to do, are actualised”, he said.
Stakeholders from Etim Ekpo, Ibesikpo Asutan and Mkpat Enin, who also visited the party to condole with the leadership of the party, registered their commiserations and encouraged the party to continue with the ideals of Obong Ekpenyong. The Etim Ekpo State Assembly member, Hon. Mfon Idung, Ibesikpo Asutan Council chair, Mrs Akon Michael and the Commissioner for Works & Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, who led the separate delegations, spoke on behalf of Etim Ekpo, Ibesikpo Asutan and Mkpat Enin stakeholders, respectively. They prayed God to console the PDP family and his loved ones over the loss.
Hon. Lawrence Udosen, the Acting State Chairman of the party, while receiving the various delegations, appreciated the honour done to the late chairman and tasked the stakeholders to join in moving the party to greater heights, saying it is what the late Ekpenyong was set out to achieve. He said that Obong Udo Ekpenyong will be greatly missed.
