Power Sector Trainees Recount Benefits, Laud A’ Ibom Govt.

Beneficiaries of the Akwa Ibom State Government sponsored training on power sector have given Gov. Udom Emmanuel a deserved pat at the back for the initiative.

The duo of Favour Simon and Hans Udo, who participated in the power sector-training programme were guests on The Umbrella Show, a Radio programme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and bared their minds on the benefits of the initiative.

According to Simon, who studied International Relations and Economics in University of Nottingham United Kingdom, ”acquiring this knowledge in the power sector is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.”

He said he can now set up his own company without looking for paid employment. Mr. Simon further explained that the training programme helped them to see Akwa Ibom from different perspectives; because they understand that, they are all Akwa Ibom people and have a government that cares about its youth population.

While stressing that, the training programme helped to unite participants selected from the 31 local government areas, they said it also reinforced in them a sense of patriotism, allegiance and obligation to the state. Mr. Simon commended the state government for the effort.

Speaking in the same vein, Mr. Udo , a graduate of Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) said he is happy for the power sector training, because it has opened his eyes to the different aspects of energy conservation. In addition, Mr. Udo said his confidence has been bouyed by the experience.

“The most interesting part to me was the orientation we had during the power sector training, because it helped in shaping our confidence. It gave me hope; it helped my psyche,” he said.

On how they made it to the training, the duo said they never lobbied to make the list, adding that their selection came as a surprise after indicating their interest to participate and acquire knowledge in the power sector.

Mr. Simon said that they are now familiar with the nuances of renewable energy and other modern trends in the power sector and lauded the state government for keeping its campaign promise of empowering Akwa Ibom youths through capacity building and human development. He charged youths to continue to support the Gov. Emmanuel-led state government.
