PDP Ward Tour Collapses Opposition Structure in Urueoffong/Oruko

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) penultimate weekend stormed the entire Urueoffong/Oruko Local Government, resulting in the collapse of what was left of the opposition political parties.

Addressing a large crowd of excited party members in each ward, the chapter Chairman of the party in Urueoffong/Oruko, Gov. Udom Emmanuel explained that the familiarization visit was to identify with the PDP loyalists and to also convey the message of Gov. Udom Emmanuel’s continued commitment to implement the five points agenda of wealth creation, job creation, poverty alleviation, infrastructure consolidation and expansion and economic and political inclusion.

He said that the high number of defectors from opposition political parties, particularly the All Progressive Congress (APC) to PDP in all the wards was remarkable, meaning that the structure of opposition political parties has depleted to the extent that PDP in the area is receiving defectors into the party on a daily basis.

The number of defectors, Hon. Edeke said has increased during the ward tour, asserting that the development has repositioned PDP in Urueoffong/Oruko.

In ward 3,Oyubia, Hon. Edekedisclosed that the state chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo has mandated him to receive the defected members back to PDP as a way of restructuring the party and give them a level playing ground to make their choice of representative in the forth coming local government election.

He told the people that Gov. Udom Emmanuel has recorded significant strides in all sectors of the economy, pointing out that the implementation of the industrialization plan through public-private-partnership arrangement, massive road construction, human capacity building programmes for youths, support to traders, continuation of the free and compulsory education policy, prompt payment of workers’ salaries and proper utilization of the lean resources of government are aimed at enhancing the welfare of Akwa Ibom people.

Hon. Edeke, who was obviously happy with the collapse of opposition parties in his area, assured PDP members that the era of impunity and fractionalization in the party to the detriment of the committed and loyal members is gone.

He said that was why the party told the elders to choose among themselves those that will steer the ship of the party in each of the 10 wards in Urueoffong/Oruko and assured everyone of transparency and honesty of purpose in piloting the affairs of the party.

Speaking with one voice, the stakeholders in their wards declared that their support to Gov. Emmanuel was unwavering. The stakeholders who spoke during the ward tour include Chief Sylvester Akaiso, ward 6; Chief Koko Ntofon, ward 6; Chief O. U. Bassey, ward 1;Elder Moses Anwana, ward 1 and Sir Uya Idungikan, ward 2.

Others were Rev. Nso Nduonofit, ward 2 and Rt. Hon. Uno E. Uno, ward 9; Prof. E. E. Nkereuwem, ward 10 and Mr. Bassey Willie, ward 4 among others.

Edeke to the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Development, Prof. Emmanuel Onwioduokit, who contributed immensely to the emergence of the current chapter chairman. The stakeholders said it was not in doubt that Hon. Edeke, a grassroots politician and former leader of Urueoffong/Oruko Legislative Council will revive PDP and put it on the winning path again Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area.
