PDP CONSOLIDATES TO RECLAIM THE CENTER
In a bid to restore the electoral credibility of the Peoples Democratic Party and unite every component of the party, a new national caretaker committee has been set up with the mandate of conducting an acceptable party convention to elect new national officers within 90 days.
This resolution was reached at the party’s national convention which held at the Shark’s stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where it the out-gone national executive committee of the party led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was dissolved by the congress, having completed its tenure of office.
In a motion to constitute a caretaker executive for the party, the minority leader of the senate, Chief Godswill Akpabio noted that the decision was reached in the best interest of the party to energize machinery of party politics for enhanced welfare of the Nigerian masses.
The committee, which has a former governor of Kaduna State Senator Ahmed Makarfi as chairman, also has Senator Ben Obi as secretary while members include Senator Ugbesia, Senator Abdul Ningi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Aisha Aliyu and Barrister Usman.
The convention was largely attended by members across the country and had all twelve governors, serving members of the National Assembly, Board of Trustee Members of the party, former governors, stakeholders as well as members of the dissolved national executive council including Prince Uche Secondus in attendance.
It would be recalled that the PDP on February 16, 2016 appointed Senator Sheriff chairman to complete the tenure of Alhaji Adamu Muazu who resigned shortly after the party’s dismal performance in the 2015 general elections.
