GROUPS CONTINUE TO PAY CONDOLENCE VISITS TO A’IBOM PDP OVER PARTY CHAIRMAN’S DEMISE
Delegations from concerned groups have continued to visit the Akwa Ibom State leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to register their commiserations over the demise of the state chairman of the party, Obong (Hon) Udo Ekpenyong.
At their condolence visitation, Friday February 19, 2021, the College of Commissioners and Special Advisers, commiserated with the party having extolled the qualities exuded by the late Ekpenyong. The Dean of the College who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, while speaking on behalf of her colleagues, said that Udo Ekpenyong who served in the governor’s cabinet with them as commissioner, was outstandingly good and excellent in leadership. She noted that as party chairman, Udo Ekpenyong stamped a signature of uprightness in all dealings in the party. She thanked the party for honouring the departed chairman and promised that commissioners and special advisers will ”continue to support the party in the bid to promote the late chairman’s ideals.”
The chairmen of Boards and parastatals who also visited, speaking through the Chairman Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Okon Okon, said that Udo Ekpenyong’s is a loss of an icon of good leadership. He prayed God to console the party, the state and his loved ones.
Also visiting were former local government chairmen under the aegis of Forum of Former Local Government Chairmen, Akwa Ibom State. Speaking on behalf of the forum, the former Ibiono Ibom Council Chairman, Obong (Hon) Godwin Ekpo, said Ekpenyong was a fine local government chairman in his 1996 administration and a pride of Akwa Ibom. He expressed deep sense of loss by the party chairman’s demise.
The delegation from Ini and Mbo Local Government Areas, took time to speak glowingly of the late Obong Ekpenyong, saying he will be greatly missed. The leaders of the delegations, Dr. Glory Edet and the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, in their sperate speeches, agreed that although Udo Ekpenyong stayed briefly as party chairman, his impacts cannot be forgotten.
Responding, the Acting State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Lawrence Udosen, appreciated the various delegations for the visits. He noted that it was a mark of honour to the late chairman, for the various delegations to visit the party to register their condolences.
