2023: A’IBOM PDP COMMITS TO PEACEFUL POLL
…As AKS PDP Boss, Candidates, other Political Parties sign Peace Accord
Earlier today, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan , led candidates of the PDP vying for seats in the Senate and House of Representatives in the forthcoming general elections in 2023 to make further commitment to peaceful electioneering and the polls.
At a Peace Accord signing Ceremony presided over the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State Command, CP, Olatoye Durosinmi, in league with the Heads of the Security agencies operating in Akwa Ibom State, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Cyril Omoregbe, the Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman said as the Party that has enjoyed the cherished privileged of being the serially most preferred Party by Akwa Ibom electorate, the PDP owes it to the people to produce only leaders who will advance the collective aspirations who voted them into offices.
The Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan said “Because the PDP understands the value of the trust Akwa Ibom people have continued to invest in voting for the PDP, we will never relent in our efforts in constantly engaging and interfacing with the people to vote for our people so we can also keep to our own end of the social contract through the provision of impactful leadership and representation to them.”
The Akwa Ibom PDP helmsman continued: “It is always gratifying to hear the electorate say and vote in a pattern that shows that “PDP has become a religion in Akwa Ibom State”. Therefore as a Party that enjoys this highly coveted privilege, we cannot engage in violence or any actions that can jeopardise the forthcoming election. We are holding out the hope that our brethren in other political party will also honour today’s commitment”
Elder Aniekan Akpan commended the Security agencies for their role in helping Akwa Ibom maintain the status of the most Peaceful State in Nigeria since 2015, noting that this has contributed immensely to the actualization of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda.
Earlier, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP, Olatoye Durosinmi said the move of signing the Peace Accord was to get Political Parties and their candidates to make a commitment towards preserving the prevailing Peace that Akwa Ibom State has come to be known for, and to conduct their campaigns and even the elections in a peaceful, patriotic and responsible manner.
Heads of the Security Agencies present at signing of the Accord include: The Commissioner for Police Akwa Ibom State, Head of Department of State Services, Head of the Nigeria security and Civil Defence Corps.
