The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Obong Paul Ekpo, has charged party faithful at all levels to engage in political activities that will help reposition the party at the ward and unit levels.
Obong Ekpo made this known on Tuesday when he led members of the State Working Committee of the party on a Federal Constituency tour to Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency.
In his opening speech, the Party Chairman said “We are engaging here because it is getting closer to the time that we will bring out men and women that will fly the flags of the party at all levels in the forthcoming general elections. Since it is the responsibility of the party to present qualified candidates that will win the elections for the party at all levels, it is pertinent that the party embark on this tour in order to avail the leadership the opportunity to sensitize members of the party and supporters on the need to unite and reposition the party to its winning ways.”
Recounting the many benefits that the party enjoyed after embarking on a similar tour in preparation for the last Local Government elections, Obong Ekpo informed that the days of impunity in the party were over, maintaining that the party was determined to go back to the grassroots to ensure all-round victory in the forthcoming elections.
“These activities saw the party to victory in last Local Government elections and we are optimistic that with more of these sort of political engagements at the grassroots, the party will come out victorious at all levels with fairness and justice in place,” he said.
The State Chairman commended political groups, especially those that participated in the various endorsement rallies, on their contributions toward spreading the good governance message of the PDP led Government and charged members to take same activities to the various wards and units.
Obong Ekpo further encouraged party faithful and supporters to remain steadfast and committed to activities of the PDP, saying “With the failures of the present federal government, the leaders of the party are optimistic that PDP will take over power at the center. Party members and supporters should ensure that they defend their rights and votes in the forthcoming elections. You must make sure your votes are counted at your various polling units.”
He also presented the party’s goodwill message of peace and unity to the people of Ukanafun and its environs, maintaining that “with peace and unity among the people of the area, more development will be brought to the area.”
Those who spoke on behalf of the people of the area including Hon. Aniekan Akpan and Hon. Udo Ekpeyong, commended the leadership of the party for the paradigm shift in political engagement, especially its effort to return the party to the people at the grassroots, appealing for more infrastructural development to be brought to the area.
The event featured the inauguration of Local Government Caucus in Ukanafun and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas and presentation of membership registers for revalidation of current members and registration of new members at the ward levels.
