2023: UMO ENO BEATS 13 OTHERS TO CLINCH PDP GOVERNORSHIP TICKET

 

… As Gov Emmanuel Calls for Reconciliation, Unity of Purpose

Immediate past Commissioner for Land and Water resources , Pst. Umo Eno has emerged the elected governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State in the just concluded State Congress held at the Nest of Champions in Uyo and has called on co-contenders to join in promoting the collective interest of the Party.

Emerging among 14 cleared aspirants for the party ticket to contest for the Hill Top job in 2023, Eno with a total number of 993 votes polled from more than a thousand valid votes, clinched the coveted party ticket in a keenly contested primary election of the Party.

The Nsit Ubium born entrepreneur while accepting his nomination, wednesday May 25, expressed satisfaction on the process and gratitude to the delegates for deeming him fit to be the party’s standard bearer, appealing to his co-contenders whom he said are fellow promoters of Akwa Ibom project to join hands in ensuring a continuous upward movement for the PDP.

“I extend my hand of fellowship to my fellow contestants; each and everyone of you has fought a good fight. I will work with you, I will listen to your ideas, let us join hands and take this state to another level so that our party will continue to thrive”, he said.

Congratulating the candidate, Governor Udom Emmanuel while speaking noted that the will of party men and women has been reflected in the nomination process which he said has gone further to strengthen the democratic system of the party, encouraging other aspirants to join in the bigger interest of the party and the sate.

In his words, “the light of development should not be quenched. The party will soon set up a reconciliation committee for all interests and issues to be addressed. Only one person can be the governor but many people can make a government.”

Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman of the party, Rt.Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan in his opening remark reassured party faithful and Akwa Ibomites of a free, fair and credible process of nominations which he said will produce the best for the contest, adding that the PDP will not relent in it’s effort to produce people centric leaders.

“Let me assure all aspirants and their supporters that we will ensure a level playing field for all. Whosoever emerges in this process will undoubtedly be the choice of the people. I am very confident that the best aspirant will eventually emerge as party’s flag bearer for the governorship election in 2023”, the Chairman said.

On his part, the Chairman of the Congress committee for Akwa Ibom PDP , the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comr. Philip Shaibu reiterated the Party’s guideline on credible voting process, reminding party stakeholders and faithful of the greater objective of developing Akwa Ibom and rescuing Nigeria through the 2023 polls

The Governorship primaries which was held in line with Section 84 (8) of the electoral act 2022, had a total of 1018 eligible delegates with 14 cleared aspirants standing elections.
