Udo Ekpenyong’s Funeral rites climax with Thanksgiving Service

…Let’s honour his memory by supporting Gov. Emmanuel, PDP – Acting State PDP Chairman urges

Activities marking the funeral rites of the sixth State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State, the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong climaxed today with a thanksgiving Service to afford the immediate family the opportunity to thank God for the life their patriarch led while alive.

The service which took place at the Delightful Christian Church International, Uyo was presided over by Apostle Ukana Ekpenyong.

Leading the deceased family in thanksgiving, eldest son of late Udo Ekpenyong, Dr Frank Ekpenyong, said the family has anchored its strength on the unchangeable nature of God whom he says never fails in playing the fatherly role in the lives of the fatherless.

Dr Ekpenyong said, “as we navigate this new phase without our father, we are confident that God Almighty will never fail in covering us with the banner of his boundless love. It is joyful to us that our dear father had led all of us by the hand to God and had lived by example with the way he was committed to the ways of God.”

Acting State Chairman of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Lawrence Udosen, in his remarks at the service reminded the congregation that one of the ways to honour the memory of the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong was for members of the PDP in Akwa Ibom and indeed Akwa Ibom people to continously increase their level of support to the Governor Emmanuel’s administration as this is what the late Obong Ekpenyong yearned for while alive.

“For the brief moment he held the reins as State Chairman of our party, Obong Udo Ekpenyong’s efforts were positively channelled into the task of deepening the taproot of the PDP in Akwa Ibom and creating new stories of success for our party. Even while he served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, his leadership strides had impacted positively on the growth of that Ministry. All these he did in an effort to support the administration of Governor Emmanuel. To honour him, we must do our best to support this government and the party at all times”, Rt. Hon Udosen stressed.

Earlier in her remarks, the Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Glory Edet while extolling the lofty virtues of the late Udo Ekpenyong said as a colleague in the Exco, the late Obong Ekpenyong had lived a exemplary life of honesty, loyalty, commitment and dedication to duties, stressing that the timeless lessons he left in loyalty will continue to span generations.

Dr Glory Edet maintained that “as individuals, we must constantly reflect on where we stand with God and our fellow men in the area of loyalty and the pursuit of laudable virtues. This is because we are here to make a world a better place. That is what our departed former colleague, Obong Udo Ekpenyong had strived to do while he walked this earth”

Donations were made to the church in memory of the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong by the Acting State Chairman of the PDP, Rt Hon Lawrence Udosen on behalf of the PDP family and Dr Glory Edet who also made a donation on behalf of Commissioners and Special Advisers in the State Executive Council.

Prayers were offered to the family of the departed State Chairman.
