UDO EKPENYONG’S DEMISE: ABAK, URUAN, OKOBO STAKEHOLDERS VISIT STATE PART

Stakeholders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from Abak, Uruan and Okobo Local Government Areas on Monday, February 8, 2021, have paid a formal visit to the state chapter of the party, following the demise of the party’s state chairman, Hon. Udo Ekpenyong.

Leading the delegation of the separate visits, the Stakeholders of the party in Abak, Uruan and Okobo, while addressing the Acting State Chairman, Hon. Lawrence Udosen, commiserated with the the party over the loss of the state chairman.

Conveying the message on behalf of the delegation from Abak chapter, the member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika, in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, expressed sadness over Ekpenyong’s demise, urging the party to be strong and continue to propagate the ideals of the late chairman. Umanah thanked the state leadership of the party for the organisation of the condolence visits, saying it offers party faithful a chance to register their condolences.

On its part, the delegation of Uruan chapter of the party, speaking through the chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, and the chapter chairman, Hon. Sebastian Nkanga, noted that the party chairman’s demise has devastated many close associates and has left a vacuum that will be hard to fill. He conveyed Uruan chapter’s condolences to the party.

The PDP stakeholders from Okobo chapter, whose visit came last, joined voice to commiserate with the state leadership of the party. The Okobo Council Chairman, Dr Sylvester Attah, who spoke glowingly of late Obong Ekpenyong, prayed the party to keep up with the ideals of departed chairman, saying his “ideals must not be interred with his bones”. Also speaking, the Okobo chapter chairman of the party, Prince Eteka Ukpong, lamented the loss of the state Chairman whom he described as “an epitome of humility”. He prayed God to grant the party the fortitude to bear the loss.

In his response, the Acting State Chairman of PDP, Hon Lawrence Udosen, appreciated the party stakeholders from Abak, Uruan and Okobo, for the visit and as well encouraged them to go back to their various localities and uphold the ideals of the late chairman with regards to discipline and above all, loyalty. He charged them not to fret, but remain strong and united.

The different delegations were led to observe a minute of silence in honour of the departed State Chairman.

Highpoint of the visit was the signing of the Condolence register by leaders of the different delegations on behalf of their respective Local Government Areas.

Meanwhile, delegation from Oruk Anam, Itu and Esit Eket will take their turn on Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
