REMARKS BY THE STATE CHAIRMAN OF PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), ELDER ANIEKAN AKPAN DURING THE AKWA IBOM STATE PDP GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARY IN UYO ON 25TH MAY 2022.
It is with a great sense of duty and gratitude to God that I welcome you all, our dear delegates, observers, INEC officials, Party officials and PDP Primary Committee from Abuja, to Uyo for today’s governorship nomination of our party.
This governorship primary is very important to our party and the future of our great State. 14 aspirants are in the race for the 2023 governorship of our State under the PDP. As a party, we have put everything in place to ensure a fair, transparent and hitch-free governorship primary in the State.
Let me appreciate our delegates, aspirants, party faithful and other stakeholders for their support and cooperation which led to the successful conduct of State Assembly and House of Representatives primaries as well as the Senatorial primaries of our party held earlier during the week. I wish to solicit for continued cooperation of all to make today’s governorship primary a model for others to emulate.
Let me assure all aspirants and their supporters that we will ensure a level playing field for all. Whosoever emerges in this process will undoubtedly be the choice of the people. I am very confident that the best aspirant will eventually emerge as party’s flag bearer for the governorship election in 2023.
I call on you to comply with all the rules guiding the conduct of this primary as we have clear guidelines which should guide all aspirants and delegates, and the party will not compromise the rules.
Please consider that over the years, we have done successful congresses with our integrity intact and these past accomplishments should be replicated today.
Let me remind all aspirants that politics is like a sporting competition, if you do not win today, you can win tomorrow.
My dear delegates, observers and party officials, let us give our best for the good of the party and our State in this exercise.
On this note, I wish to reiterate that the PDP still remains the only party that holds the hope for a better Akwa Ibom and greater and prosperous Nigeria.
