OUR COMMITMENT TO FAIR TREATMENT OF ASPIRANTS, IRREVERSIBLE – Akwa Ibom PDP Chair

… Commends Party for Fair Treatment of Aspirants

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has reiterated its commitment to uphold the party’s democratic ideals by providing a levelled playing ground for all aspirants gunning for the party’s ticket in the build up to the 2023 polls.

The State Chairman of PDP, Rt Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, who spoke at the Atan Offot party house, Monday March 7, while welcoming the campaign team of Senator Bassey Albert, reassured the delegation of the party’s earlier communicated stance that all aspirants will be treated fairly before and during the nomination, stating that it is the usual practice of PDP to entrench internal democracy.

“I said it before and I stand by that statement that the party is open for all. As we are smiling today, God will give us the grace to smile to the end.”

“There will be a levelled playing field and as it is our democratic tradition, every willing aspirant will certainly be given the opportunity to stand nomination and whoever the delegates nominate as standard bearer will be our candidate”, the chairman said.

While thanking the gubernatorial hopeful, Sen Albert, for honouring the party through the consultation, the chairman gave him assurances of absolute fairness at the party primaries, pointing that the power to decide the party’s standard bearer lies in the delegates and who the delegates nominate shall enjoy total support to victory at the polls.

The chairman further cautioned against disorderliness and intolerant in the cause of pursuing various aspirations.

“I appeal that every aspiration be pursued with utmost decency and peaceful disposition. We must unite so that we can advance our cause and win the general elections at all levels.”

On his part, Sen Bassey Albert appreciated the party for the fair treatment given to apirants including himself by opening the doors of the party for aspirants to come in for consultation, while seeking the support of delegates in his governorship bid, adding that he is ready to make the party proud if given the chance.

Also speaking, the Director General of the Sen Bassey Albert Campaign Organisation, Bishop Andrew Uwanta and a stakeholder of the party, Sir Emem Akpabio, thanked the leadership of the party in the state for upholding the tradition of internal democracy and expressed trust that the nomination process will be fair.
