ONLY ONE CAMP MUST EXIST – A’Ibom PDP Insists, Sets robust agenda for Unity, togetherness

… As Candidates Reach Consensus on Reconciliation, building bridges for 2023 electoral victory

The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has moved to dissolve all intra-party interest groups previously formed to advance the aspirations of various party members who vied for the party’s tickets in the recently concluded primary elections at all levels, in view to foster re-unification among different interest blocs within the party.

Speaking through the State Chairman of PDP, Rt.Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan , Thursday June 2, in a meeting with candidates of the party, the state leadership of PDP has declared that it is time to dissolve all camps and groups sympathetic to aspirants and pursue a united front for the party while making efforts to address divergent concerns of party faithful rising from the build up to and the conduct of the primaries.

Rt. Hon. Akpan who addressed candidates of the party, congratulated them on their emergence as standard bearers of PDP, calling on them to be proactive in leading reconciliation initiatives in their various localities and furthering grassroots engagements to deepen democratic conversations and consultations with the people.

“By the power conferred on me as Chairman of the party in Akwa Ibom State, I declare all camps dissolved. There is only one camp and that is the PDP camp which we all belong. This is time to strengthen our unity as a party and remain an indivisible family that we are.”

“As candidates of our party, go back home and bring everybody together. Let every issue of division and divided interest be ended. We are going forward and we must go forward as one front.”

“As we promised, we allowed everyone to go to the field and that explains why the process was smooth, peaceful and credible. We want the candidates to extend a hand to others. Appreciate those who stood by you and those who did not”

“All candidates must lead the engagements at the grassroots level. Candidates must immediately take the initiative of reconciliation and re-unification even before the party officially sets up the Reconciliation Committee which is to be constituted soon”, the party chairman said.

He also relayed the commendation of the party to Governor Udom Emmanuel whom he said made a bold step into national politics and created significant impact during the recently concluded presidential primary of PDP in Abuja.

“Let it be on record that the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State is particularly proud of Governor Udom Emmanuel who went gallantly into the presidential primary and made a great mark. He dared to break record as a true Akwa Ibom man who like others is deserving of holding the people’s mandate at the center.”

Responding on behalf of the candidates, the immediate past National Legal Adviser of PDP, and senatorial candidate of the party for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, appreciated the party for the thoughtfulness of convening a meeting with the candidates and promoting peace and reconciliation, adding that it is a mark of conscientious leadership and that the candidates are optimistic of sweeping victory by 2023.

In his words, “I thank you for the wisdom to call us for this briefing. We just finished a family competition. The party primaries were a family competition and having concluded, we have to relate and behave like a family.”

“PDP is the only party that has successfully concluded all its primaries from House of Assembly to presidential nomination, while some other parties are still dragging their feet.”

Also commending the party was the member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika in the House of Representatives, Hon Aniekan Umana, who himself won the primaries to run for a second term, while assuring of the necessary steps to achieve unity of purpose.

At the meeting, the party chairman mandated every candidate for senate seat to coordinate other candidates within his respective senatorial district and undertake further engagements directed at maintaining unity and peace in the party.
