MORE ON THE CONDOLENCE VISIT

UDO EKPENYONG LEFT ENDURING LEGACIES, PDP STAKEHOLDERS AFFIRM
-As Oruk Anam, Itu, Esit Eket PDP Pay Condolence Visit

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Oruk Anam, Itu and Esit Eket Local Government Areas, have affirmed that the late State Chairman of PDP, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, left enduring legacies.

The stakeholders who spoke separately while paying condolence visit to the state party leadership in Uyo, Tuesday February 9, 2021, expressed grief over the loss of the state chairman, who was barely five months in office.

The leader of Oruk Anam delegation, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan, who condoled the party, noted that “it is a very unfortunate situation” and a sad reality that party faithful woke up to behold. While extolling the late Chairman’s sterling qualities, Akpan who represents Oruk Anam in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, said Ekpenyong “was a man who believed that carrying the flag of the party and making it stronger is a task for everyone.”

“We will not forget this loss so soon. Obong Udo Ekpenyong has gone, but he is still alive.To us in Oruk Anam, it is particularly painful because Udo was our in-law. He married from Oruk Anam”, Akpan said.

On her part, the former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Obonganwan Grace Ekong, who spoke on behalf of Itu delegation, shared experiences she had with Udo Ekpenyong as fellow cabinet member in the administration of Obong Victor Attah. She outlined Ekpenyong’s contributions to the growth of the party since his emergence as party Ex Officio in the state until becoming party Chairman. She concluded that his numerous legacies will never die, even though he is no more.

The Esit Eket delegation, speaking through Hon. Prince Nkereuwem Akwaowo, Commissioner 1 in Akwa Ibom State Judicial Service Commission, mourned Ekpenyong’s demise, adding that people of the area will not forget him in a haste. Prince Akwaowo also shared his experience with Udo Ekpenyong as mates in the defunct College of Education, Uyo, where he said the late Chairman’s leadership qualities began displaying then.

Also speaking, the Esit Eket chapter chairman and Chairman, Forum of Chapter Chairmen, Hon (Elder) Eddy Etangkanga, expressed sadness over the state chairman’s death, but promised that as a part faithful, he will do his best to uphold the democratic ideals that of the departed chairman.

Responding on behalf of the state leadership of the party, the Acting Chairman, Hon. Lawrence Udosen, appreciated the different delegations, while speaking of the person the late Chairman.

“Obong Udo Ekpenyong exuded passion and commitment in every assignment given him. His legacies will be sustained in this party”

Condolence visitations to the PDP continues with other local government chapters and groups billed to visit.
