EKPENYONG WAS A STATEMAN – PDP Stakeholders Affirm

… As Ikono, Ibiono Ibom, Onna Pay Condolence Visit

The departed state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State, Obong Udo Ekpenyong has been described as a statesman who was dedicated to the development of the state.

Stakeholders of the party from Ikono, Ibiono Ibom and Onna, during their separate condolence visits to the state leadership of the party, spoke about the sterling qualities of the late party Chairman, noting that his contributions to the Akwa Ibom project cannot be ignored or forgotten in a hurry.

A former Commissioner for Finance, Sir S. U. Akpan, who served with the late Ekpenyong in the then Gov Victor Attah’s cabinet, recalled the productive contributions of Obong Ekpenyong to the state in his capacity as Special Adviser, Bureau of Political & Legislative Affairs. Sir Akpan who led the Ikono delegation, described Ekpenyong as a dependable defender of a good cause and a man of principles, praying for strength to bear the loss.

In its sperate visit, the Ibiono Ibom delegation, while also conveying condolences to the party, described Ekpenyong’s demise as a loss to Ibiono Ibom PDP, saying that the late chairman was a friend of Ibiono Ibom. The pioneer State Secretary of PDP, Elder Ntienyong Inyangmme, who led the Ibiono Ibom delegation, lamented the loss of a key ally in Udo Ekpenyong and promised that Ibiono Ibom will not fail to honour him by remaining one of biggest strongholds of the party in the state.

Similarly, the delegation from Onna, speaking through the former Council Chairman, Hon. Mfon Edet, condoled with the party in the state over the Chairman’s demise. The Onna party stakeholders also commiserated with late Chairman’s family for their loss, praying God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Responding, the Acting State Chairman of PDP, Rt Hon. Lawrence Udosen expressed sadness that he had to be the one receiving visitations over a sad incidence. He charged the stakeholders to do their bid in honouring late Obong Ekpenyong by their conducts and in keeping to the ideologies that he propagated while alive.

Billed for another batch of condolence visitations for Friday February 12, 2021, are delegation from Essien Udim, Nsit Atai and Ikot Abasi.
