Eket Sen. District Women Endorse Gov Emmanuel, Purchase Re-Election Form

The women of Eket senatorial district have reaffirmed their resolve to stand by and support the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel as Governor for another term in office.

To back words with actions, the women under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, said they have raised funds to purchase the governorship form for the Governor.

At a formal reception and endorsement rally of the Governor, which attracted a mammoth crowd of women and other stakeholders to the Onna Township Stadium, the women spoke in unequivocal terms that they were impressed with the spread of projects, industries, empowerment schemes and appointments across the 12 local government areas of the three federal constituencies of the senatorial district.

They also thanked the Governor’s wife, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel for her numerous life touching programmes through her Family Enhancement and Youth Reorientation Path Initiative.

Following a motion moved by Distinguished Senator Helen Esuene and seconded by the member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mrs Owoidighe Ekpoattai, the support for the Governor’s re-election was sealed by Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, at an event that attracted the State Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo, state and national lawmakers, former and serving political office holders and several royal fathers and captains of industry.

Speaker after speaker, eulogized Governor Emmanuel for being a worthy ambassador of the senatorial district who has silenced even the most ardent critic.

Those who spoke included the President of the Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, Akwa Obonganwan Patience Ukpa, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mrs Felicia Bassey, Senator Helen Esuene, Wife of former Deputy Governor, Atim Okpoyo and wife of member representing Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, Mrs Idorenyin Uduyok.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Udom Emmanuel appreciated the women for organising the event in his support.

He promised to assist the women to establish three cottage industries in the three federal constituencies and urged the leadership of the women in each of the three federal constituencies to meet and agree on the industries which should commence before the end of the year.

“If work on the cottage industry in your federal constituency fails to commence before the end of this year, hold the leadership of your federal constituency responsible,” Mr Emmanuel told the women.

He described women as peacemakers and home builders who will be able to manage those industries to greater heights.

He thanked them for offering to purchase the form for his re-election in 2019 and promised to continue providing programmes and policies to improve on their wellbeing.

He said so far, available indications show that his administration has executed more projects than what is obtainable in other parts of the country.
He urged those who are yet to benefit from his interest free loan schemes for traders and market women, to exercise patience as the scheme continues revolving.

In his goodwill message, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obong Paul Ekpo said the party was not surprised by the spate of endorsements on the Governor since his performance was glaring, added that the party was supportive of the women’s decision.

Mr. Ekpo urged the women, youths, elders and leaders to take the message to all their wards and units and ensure that they eork with their people to return the Governor for another term from 2019 till 2023.

Earlier the Chairman on the occasion and managing director of a construction firm, Hensek Engineering, Engr. Uwem Okoko lauded the women for organising the event and affirmed that the Governor’s strides so far stood him out as the best in the country.

Highlight of the event was a colourful parade by a cross section of the women from the respective local government areas, to the admiration of the Governor and other dignitaries present.
