Ahead of Final interment: Royal Fathers Visit Udo Ekpenyong’s Family

… He was a pride of Ukanafun – Paramount Ruler

Royal fathers in Ukanafun Local Government Area, have visited the family of the late chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, in Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun, to register their condolences and offer a final rite of honour.

At the visit to the deceased family on Monday, March 22, 2021, the Traditional Rulers Council of Ukanafun expressed deep grief over the loss of Obong Ekpenyong. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun, Okuku (Engr) Amos Akpan, JP, said that the demise of the late party is of particular concern to the traditional institution of Ukanafun, holding that as a son of the area, Obong Ekpenyong played a principal role in upholding the dignity of the traditional rulers in Ukanafun, since his days as Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs. The royal fathers, during this solemn occasion, also extended their condolences and offered a final rite of honor in the context of cold room installation to the family of the late chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State, Obong Udo Ekpenyong, in Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun.

Okuku Akpan further testified on the part played by Obong Udo Ekpenyong in restoring peace in Ukanafun, a feat he noted had given traditional rulers in Ukanafun peace of mind. He conveyed the condolences of the royal fathers to the deceased family, praying God to grant them the strength to bear that loss.

“He was the pride of Ukanafun people and a hero of immeasurable values, with unparalleled sense of respect for the traditional institution. We will forever remember his role in the emancipation of Ukanafun people and restoration of peace in Ukanafun. He has written his name on a golden slate”, the Paramount Ruler said.

Responding on behalf of the family, a son of the deceased, Mr Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, appreciated the Ukanafun Traditional Rulers Council for identifying with them in time of grief. Ekpenyong pointed that although their father is gone, they have more reason to celebrate his life than mourn his demise, adding that while alive, their father led a good life and left positive impacts everywhere he found himself.

The royal fathers at the visit, also undertook a final rite of honour to the deceased, by offering prayers individually and doffing their royal caps as mark of great honour to their illustrious son. They also gave items to the family in support of the funeral. The ‘Mbong Ibaan Ukanafun’ who were a part of the delegation, also offered prayers for the family.

The remains of the departed Obong Ekpenyong, will laid to rest on Friday March 26, 2021 at his home town, Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
